Lanka Children’s and Youth Theatre Foundation
Lanka Children’s and Youth Theatre Foundation (LCYTF) or popularly known as the “Play House-Kotte” is a non-profit making organization for educating the children and youth through the medium of theatre with the vision to nurture a benevolent society. It was established in 1981 with the aim of promoting Children’s and Youth Theatre in Sri Lanka under the auspices of Mrs. Somalatha Subasinghe, veteran children’s theatre director and playwright. Since then the organization has been able to produce a repertoire of Children’s and Youth theatre and award winning mainstream theatre productions. The organisation has emerged as one of the leading training centers for performing artistes particularly in children’s and youth theatre.
With many years of experience in the field of Children’s and Youth theatre, the LCYTF is currently the foremost institution in Sri Lanka in that respect. The high standards in its theatre productions have been internationally recognized as well. As a result, the professional theater group of LCYTF has participated in many international Children’s and Youth Theatre Festivals and conferences in countries like Bangladesh (in 1997), India (in 2001), Australia (in 2001), France (in 2002, 2006 and 2008), The Netherlands (in 2002), and Korea (in 2002).
