Creative Activities for Children Programme (CAC-Prog)

The prime objective of the CAC-Prog is to develop child’s mental and physical aspects and to enhance cheerfulness and playful sense of the child through aesthetic experiences. The programme gives the child the opportunity to learn a sense of caring, world awareness, experience in human relationship and socio-cultural values, a sense of basic art forms and more importantly confidence and dignity in life.

These creative activities are perceived as extracurricular learning for children and young people, supplementing school education. The course content comprises of the activities given below.

  1. A basic knowledge in music, singing and rhythm
  2. Free and structured movements
  3. Language and acting
  4. Art, handicrafts and puppetry

Children between the ages 4 1/2 and 14 are eligible to participate in the programme.

The chief resource persons of the programme are Mrs. Somalatha Subasinghe, Dr. Chandana Aluthge, Ms. Kaushalya Fernando and Mr. Mayura Kanchana.

The duration of the programme is 15 weeks and sessions are held on Saturday mornings. The programme commences in July and ends in October. The programme is structured in such a way that children can join the programme at any time they wish to. In general the maximum number of participants for each age group is fifty. The registration will be done on the first come first serve basis.

The time schedule for the programme is as follows:

  • Age Group Time 4 ½ - 7 + years 9.30 a.m. –11.00 a.m.
  • 8-14 + years 11.30 a.m. – 1.30 p.m.

Course fee is Rs. 3000/= and the registration fee is Rs. 200/= per child.

The sessions are conducted at “Janakala Kendraya” premises, which is situated near the Parliament.
